music Curriculum Overview

In music class, students start in pre-k and kindergarten exploring differences between loud and soft, fast and slow, and beat and rhythm. They dance, play games, and learn some percussion instruments such as hand drums and shakers. In first through fifth grade, students learn more and more complex notes and rhythms. Students learn to read and write music through games, songs, visual aids, and activities. St. Pius X students have opportunities across the years to learn percussion instruments such as drums, xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels. they also learn to play recorders and ukuleles. Middle school students in particular use technology such as Garage Band and Spheros to learn and create music.
